It's a mess out there!

Hi Reader!

Between the news notifications and the seemingly endless January "to-do" lists, it can feel like the volume of the world is turned up way too high. If you've been feeling a bit scattered lately, you aren't alone... It really is a mess out there! ❤️

Musings

When the world feels chaotic, our nervous system instinctively looks for safety so that it can adapt. Sometimes, even that is hard to find because our own internal compass is off already.

This makes me think that we often mistake resilience for strength, and feel like we have to push through forcefully to get somewhere. Whether you're pushing through pain, fatigue and fog, sadness or fear, force is usually not the answer. We all need to become more elastic.

In NeuroSomatic work, that's what we mean about Regulation: coming back to a state of balance after a change. Not being in a fixed state of "good" or "bad", but being able to adapt and coexist with uncertainty, chaos or whatever the world throws at us. The good news is, we don't have to do it alone: Co-regulation is just as powerful, and sometimes, quite essential.

Regulation and resilience are skills you learn. Think of it like learning to play an instrument: you'll never start off by playing a whole Mozart sonata. You'll start with one note, then one piece of the melody, and build from there. Your nervous system is that music. By focusing on improving self awareness, by allowing your body to speak and acknowledging your brain's mechanisms, you can find a pocket of peace even when the rest of the world is in a frenzy. Remember: safety is not a luxury; it’s a prerequisite for learning and healing.
